Barriers to Bushels program offered at Atwater, Morris

ST. PAUL -- To help address key management issues of central, southwestern and west central Minnesota producers, Barriers to Bushels will be at three locations in March. This is a program developed by the University of Minnesota Extension aimed at current issues and research in corn and soybean crop production with the intent to ultimately help increase a producer's bottom line.

The program will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Atwater Community Center and March 9 at the West Central Research and Outreach Center at Morris. Registration is $30 which includes lunch and handouts. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at all locations with agendas, speakers and topics varying slightly by site.

Topics to be covered at Atwater include pest management, soybean management in a high cost/return world, fertilizing with sulfur, putting together a corn/soybean fertility program and sudden death syndrome and other important soybean diseases.

Topics covered at Morris include conservation drainage that addresses both productivity and the environment, fertilizing with sulfur, planting agronomics and crop rotations for high-yield corn and pest management.
