LITCHFIELD -- Barry Dexter Deviney, 54, of Litchfield, died Friday at his home.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lighthouse Church in Litchfield. Burial will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Moriah Methodist Church in Casar, N.C.
He was born Oct. 7, 1954, in Shelby, N.C., to Frank and Margie (Cook) Deviney. He went to school in Lawndale, N.C., where he graduated from the Burns High School in 1972. At age 19, he became a land surveyor.
He married JoAnn Olson on Aug. 27, 1983, in Tulsa, Okla. He lived in Casar, N.C., West Palm Beach, Fla., Casar, N.C., Tulsa, Okla., Fort Worth, Texas and moved to Litchfield in 2002. In 1982, he attended the Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, Okla., and became an ordained minister in 1984.
He was a member of the Lighthouse Church where he was the secretary, treasurer, an elder and taught adult Sunday school. While living in Fort Worth, he was a member of the Republican Party for several years and was head of the construction crews of the Air Transportation Arm of Christ. He was also a scoutmaster, a Royal Rangers Commander, a volunteer fireman and an EMT.
He is survived by his wife; children: Tim (and Amanda) Olson of Weatherford, Texas, Elizabeth Deviney of New Brighton and Patrick Deviney of Litchfield; father; and sister: Jan Deviney of Casar, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.
