BBE volleyball back at state

BERTHA -- Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa captured its second straight Section 5A title Saturday, drubbing Nevis 25-12, 26-24, 25-22.

It also marked the second straight season the Jaguars have won 30-or-more matches.

Heidi Lensing, a 5-11 senior middle hitter with over 350 kills on the season, uncorked 19 kills in 42 attacks with only three errors for a robust .381 kill percentage. She also had a team-high 18 digs and two ace serves and had four ace blocks, as did Rachel Anderson.

BBE (30-1) will open at the Class A state tournament on Thursday against Martin County West (25-5) at 3 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center (See pairings on Page B-3).

It's the third time in four years the Jaguars have earned a spot in the state tournament.

Emily Roelike added 10 kills in 31 attacks and also contributed 11 digs, while serving 16-for-16 with one ace. Anderson had four kills and Maggie Gruber three.

Julie Hieserich dished out 26 assists and Jenny Hieserich notched 15 digs.

Nevis finished 16-9.
