BENSON — Long-serving member Gary Landmark will not be returning to the Benson City Council.
Mayor Paul Kittelson will return for his 10th two-year term.
A five-vote margin cost Landmark his seat in Tuesday’s three-way race for two council positions.
Benson voters elected two first-time candidates to four-year terms on the council.
Stephanie Heinzig led with 570 votes and Jack Evenson collected 499 votes. Landmark had 494 votes.
Landmark has served on the council since being elected in 1989.
Kittelson easily handled a challenge by Mark Anderson to retain his seat, collecting 669 votes to Anderson’s 147 votes.
Benson saw a 48 percent voter turnout, according to information from the city.
