Benson voters OK $650-per-pupil levy
BENSON -- Voters in the Benson School District have approved replacing the district's current $543-per-pupil levy with a $650-per-pupil levy with an inflation clause for four years.
The unofficial final tally Tuesday showed 849 yes votes to 244 no votes, according to Benson Superintendent Lee Westrum.
The 78 percent approval shows the community's continued support for education in the district, Westrum said.
"It's a testament to the support of our community for education," Westrum said. On behalf of the district and the school board, "we are very grateful for that support."
The new levy will bringin $791,000 in the first year. It is the district's only operating levy. The current levy generated $704,000 per year and is expiring.
