BIRD ISLAND -- Bernard F. "Benny" Huebsch, 94, of Bird Island and formerly of Lake Lillian, died Tuesday at the Golden Living Center in Olivia.
The service will be at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Bird Island, and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born July 12, 1914, in Lake Lillian to Clem and Mary (Ernesti) Huebsch. He grew up in Lake Lillian where he attended country school and then worked for a farmer in Nicollet. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, including in the European/African Theater and Asiatic/Pacific Theater.
After the war, he farmed north of Olivia and then in Kandiyohi for many years. He retired and moved to Lake Lillian and later was a resident at the Bird Island Manor for several years. He most recently resided at the Golden Living Center in Olivia.
He is survived by his siblings: Vern (and Jeanette) Huebsch of Lake Lillian, Joe Huebsch of Hankinson, N.D., sisters: Dorothy Wittman of Lake Lillian, Gerry Bomsta of Olivia, Elaine Reitsma of Bird Island and Edna Athmann Rudeen of Bird Island.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
