PAYNESVILLE -- Bernard H. "Ben'' Klaphake, 96, of Paynesville, formerly of Spring Hill, died Thursday at Koronis Manor in Paynesville.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial will be in St. Louis Parish Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville is handling arrangements.

He was born Feb. 2, 1913, in New Munich to Clemens and Frances (Kersting) Klaphake. He grew up on the family farm and completed eight years of school. After school, he continued to help his brothers take care of the farm.

He married Helen Bertram on Oct. 1, 1935, in Spring Hill. They later divorced. He farmed near Spring Hill until 1964 when he moved to Paynesville. He continued to help his son on the farm after he retired.

He was a member of St. Louis Knights of Columbus Council 3820, St. Louis Catholic Aid, St. Michael's Men's Society and St. Louis Parish.

He is survived by his children: Melvin of Melrose, Eldred (and Phyllis) of Lake Henry, Roman (and Nona) of Spring Hill and Marilyn Klaphake of Sauk Centre; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six greatgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter: Joann; and nine brothers and sisters.
