WILLMAR - Bernice C. Slinden, age 97, of Willmar and formerly of Atwater, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 19, at the Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater and also one hour prior to the service. Bernice Catherine Slinden was born on January 4, 1917, in Meeker County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Helga (Nielson) Slinden. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Bernice graduated from Atwater High School and the Litchfield Normal Training Department. She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees from St. Cloud Teachers College. Bernice taught in the Meeker County Country School Districts of 62, 38 and 57 and in the high schools of Preston and Litchfield. She also served as a 4-H extension agent in Meeker, Traverse and Fillmore counties. Bernice was an active member of several church, professional and community social organizational groups.
She is survived by one sister, Violet Lind of Fridley, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harland, Orwell and Donald; one sister, Muriel Berge and nephews, Wayne Slinden and Donavan Slinden.
