WILLMAR -- Bernice Ethel Hatlestad, 94, of Willmar, died Thursday at Bethesda Heritage Care Center in Willmar.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church and for one hour before the service Monday. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

She was born May 15, 1914, in Norway Lake Township to Ole and Alma (Torgerson) Rasmusson. She grew up in the Sunburg area and attended country grade school in District 73.

She married Selmer T. Hatlestad on Sept. 26, 1935, in New London. They farmed in the Sunburg area, moving to the city of Sunburg in 1964. They later moved to Kerkhoven, where they lived until 1994. She worked at Farmers Produce in Willmar in the 1960s and Jennie-O turkey plant in the 1970s, retiring in 1983. She also made lefse with her sister-in-law for local grocery stores and worked part-time at the Sunburg Café. She had been a resident of Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar for the past few years.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake, where she was active in the ladies group and altar guild; a member of the Farmers Union and Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 8457 of Sunburg.

She is survived by a son: Silas (and Darla) Hatlestad of Sunburg; daughter-in-law: Mary Hatlestad of Kerkhoven; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and siblings: Vangie Palmer of Fridley, Carl (and Charlotte) Rasmusson of Willmar, Wilton (and Doris) Rasmusson of Minneapolis and Walter (and Maxine) Rasmusson of Ft. Collins, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 21, 1998; son: Leland in 2006; one grandson; one great-grandson; four brothers; and eight sisters.
