WILLMAR -- Bessie Louise Gunn, 86, of Willmar, formerly of Spicer, died Tuesday at Scandia Assisted Living in Willmar.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be at Spicer City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born Oct. 28, 1922, in Pine City to Carl and Ethel (Mankoff) Garrett. The family lived in Faribault and Owatonna before moving to Lakota, Iowa, where she received the majority of her schooling.
She married Daniel Gunn on Oct. 18, 1941, in Esterville, Iowa. They lived in Cylinder, Iowa, until 1948 when they moved to Swea City, Iowa, and then to Senica, Iowa. In 1950, they moved to Spicer where they farmed until 1967 when they moved to Sauk Rapids. In 1985, they moved back to Spicer. Daniel died in 1990. In 1999, she moved to the Scandia Central Minnesota Senior Care Center.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer.
She is survived by her children: Ruth Hoffman of Kandiyohi, Phyllis (and John) Wilken of St. Cloud, Daniel Gunn (and Carol Beekman) of Long Beach, Calif., and Betty Thurston of Sauk Rapids; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter: Cindy; son-in-law: Dave Thurston; two brothers and two sisters.
