Dayton blames Republicans for loss of $100 million in federal road funds

Bids exceed estimates to bring Kandiyohi County elevators up to code

WILLMAR -- Bids to bring elevators in Kandiyohi County's government buildings up to new state codes were higher than expected.

A consultant had estimated the project at $524,500.

The lowest bid submitted today was $635,480 from Thyssenkrupp Elevator from Minneapolis.

The Commissioners are expected to take action on the bids at their June 21 meeting.

Kandiyohi County did not have the elevator repairs in the budget, but if the repairs aren't made by the end of the year the state could force the county to shut down the elevators.

The building code deadline has government and commercial entities scrambling to find contractors to make the necessary updates.
