BIRD ISLAND -- Having been "discovered'' by Mark Dayton, it is only appropriate.

McKaia Ryberg will be singing the National Anthem for Governor Mark Dayton's inauguration at noon today, her family reported. Dayton's office contacted the 11-year-old and her family during the week before Christmas to ask if she would do the honors, her mother, Sandy Ryberg reported.

The inauguration will be held at the Landmark Center in St. Paul. The swearing-in ceremony begins at noon and will be broadcast on Channel 9.

Ryberg is a sixth-grade student at St. Mary's Elementary School in Bird Island. Her parents, Brian and Sandy Ryberg, live and farm near Buffalo Lake.

Ryberg was discovered by Dayton when she sang the national anthem for a Tim Orth benefit that he attended over a year ago. Dayton was so impressed that he invited Ryberg to sing the National Anthem for President Barack Obama's visit to Minneapolis last October. She frequently sings the National Anthem before sport and other events hosted by the BOLD schools.

The inaugural program begins with a welcome from former Vice President Walter Mondale, an invocation and the singing of the national anthem by Ryberg.
