WILLMAR -- Whiteout conditions are creating difficult travel conditions today in central and southwestern Minnesota.

A blizzard warning is in effect, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation's 511 traveler information website describes difficult driving conditions across the region.

Visibility is reduced in most areas due to blowing snow, and the winds are whipping up whiteout conditions frequently.

Numerous schools have cancelled classes or closed early, and many community events are being postponed.

The blizzard warning issued by the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities is in effect until 6 p.m. A wind chill warning is then in effect until noon Thursday.
