The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning until 6 p.m. for the area along and west of a line from Alexandria to Willmar to New Ulm.

There is also a wind chill advisory in effect for all of central and southern Minnesota, and a winter weather advisory has been issued for the rest of western Minnesota and the south central portion of the state.

As of 9:30 a.m., it was 3 degrees in Willmar, with 22 mph northwest winds creating wind chills of 19 below zero.

Today’s high temperature is expected to reach 6 degrees, with wind chills dipping to 33 below because of north-northwest winds from 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 35 mph.

Tonight’s low is expected to reach 16 below zero, with wind chills to 37 below because of winds from 15 to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph.

Thursday’s forecast calls for a high of 1 below, wind chills as low as 37 below and winds around 10 mph.

It will warm up on Friday, to 32 degrees above zero, but there is a 60 percent chance of snow, with new snow accumulations around an inch.
