Blowing snow closing schools early
Blowing snow is reducing visibility in much of west central Minnesota, leading schools to close early.
As of 11:30 a.m., the following schools had closed already or had announced that they would be closing shortly: Belview Learning Center, Canby, Central Minnesota Christian School(12:15 p.m.), Clarkfield Area Charter School, Dawson-Boyd, Hancock (12:30 p.m.), Lac Qui Parle, MACCRAY, Marshall Public and parochial (12:15 p.m.), Montevideo, Morris Area Schools and St. Mary's School in Morris, Redwood Falls Public and parochial, Renville County West, Yellow Medicine East, and Willmar (grades 6-12 12:30, K-5 1 p.m.).
According to the National Weather Service, snow flurries and winds gusting as high as 34 mph will cause wind chills of 7 below to 13 below today, along with limited visibility. Scattered flurries are expected to continue into the evening, and the wind is expected to diminish. Lows are expected to be in the single digits below zero.
Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high in the single digits above zero. Winds will be lighter, but the wind chill will be between 10 below and 20 below.
The low Saturday night is expected to be around 12 below, with wind chills as low as 20 below.
Sunday is forecast to be partly sunny, with highs in the single digits.
