WILLMAR — Travel will become difficult late tonight in west central Minnesota.

The National Weather Service Twin Cities office in Chanhassen has issued a winter weather advisory beginning at midnight for blowing snow in the Willmar region and much of western Minnesota.

Light snow falling overnight will combine with strong winds developing over west central Minnesota to produce periods of blowing snow that will significantly reduce visibility, the Weather Service says. Accumulations will be light — generally around an inch or less — but the falling snow with the strong winds will create hazardous travel conditions.

The Weather Service says areas most susceptible to the blowing snow will be those west of a line from Long Prairie to Litchfield to Gaylord. The advisory continues through noon Saturday.

The strong winds will create difficult travel conditions on north-south highways and for high profile vehicles.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation's traveler information website — http://www.511mn.org/ — has current traffic and road conditions.
