With the release of the name of the man, the Meeker County Sheriff's office is closing the investigation into the fire, according to a news release from the agency.

The sheriff's office, along with the state Fire Marshal's Office and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, determined that the vehicle fire started in the engine compartment near the rear of the engine and then traveled through the openings in the firewall to the passenger compartment.

The coroner's office confirmed Stone's identity through medical and dental records.

Authorities were alerted to the fire around 10:15 p.m. Nov. 23 at Stone's residence after a passerby reported it by calling 911. The Dassel Fire Department put out the blaze and found Stone's body in the vehicle.
