Body of Sgt. Jason Schumann returns to Hawley

HAWLEY, Minn. - The body of an Army soldier killed in Iraq is back in his hometown of Hawley.

A hearse carried the body of Sergeant Jason Schumann back to Hawley yesterday after it arrived at the Fargo Jet Center. The Patriot Guard -- a volunteer group of motorcycle riders -- escorted the hearse to Hawley, in western Minnesota.

Schumann was killed May 19th by a roadside bomb in Iraq. The 2002 graduate of Hawley High School was 23 years old.

People waved small U.S. flags in honor of Schumann as the hearse carrying his body drove through Hawley.

A prayer service for Schumann is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight in Hawley Lutheran Church.

Schumanns funeral is set for one o'clock Thursday at Hawley High School. He'll be buried Friday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
