Bomb squad helps detonate explosives found in McLeod County shed

GLENCOE -- A bomb squad from the Twin Cities joined McLeod County law enforcement officials today in disposing of several sticks of dynamite, along with some blasting caps, found in a shed in rural Silver Lake.

The McLeod County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called at 10:30 a.m. to the shed on Garden Avenue, southeast of Silver Lake. According to the sheriff's department, 20 to 25 sticks of dynamite were crystallizing on top of what appeared to be fertilizer. The shed also contained some blasting caps.

The Bloomington Bomb Squad was called in, arriving at around 1:15 p.m. The explosives were safely detonated in a meadow.

The Silver Lake Fire Department and Silver Lake Ambulance Service assisted.
