The Stingers burned through six pitchers in all but couldn’t stop the Cats’ offense.

Thunder Bay centerfielder Cory Kay reached base five times and Dylan Becker homered to lead the attack. Nine different players recorded hits for Thunder Bay, and all nine scored at least one run.

Marc Flores was 2-for-4 for the Stingers, and Michael Suchy and Kyle Perry each doubled.

The Stingers scored three runs on the second inning on a two-run single from Max Dutto, and Dutto later came around to score on a wild pitch. They also scored in the first on Suchy’s double.

Chris Kerwood picked up the win for the Border Cats with six innings of work.

The Stingers fell to 5-4 in the Northwoods League North Division and are tied for second place.

Notes: The Northwoods League will expand to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the 2014 season. The Kalamazoo City Commission approved an agreement with the Northwoods League this week for a five year lease beginning in January of 2014. The new team will be the league’s second team in Michigan as the Bombers currently play at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek. With the addition of Kalamazoo, the Northwoods League will have 18 teams committed for 2014. Another new expansion team in Kenosha, Wis., was announced earlier this past winter.
