Borghild Krueger April 7, 1918 - Oct. 14, 2013

WILLMAR - Borghild Krueger, 95, of Willmar, died Monday, October 14th at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Her funeral will be 11 am, Saturday, October 19th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 pm, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Memorials are preferred to Oak Grove Lutheran School, 124 North Terrace N, Fargo, ND 58102.

Borghild was born April 7, 1918 in Minneapolis, MN to Christian and Christine (Dugan) Dahl, immigrants from Norway. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in 1936. She attended post graduate studies at Roosevelt until the fall when she attended Minnesota School of Business, studying bookkeeping and secretarial services. She worked as a bookkeeper for the McKnight Company in Minneapolis from 1937-1944.

She married Robert Anton Krueger on September 11, 1943. Robert Krueger was ordained in June 1945 in Willmar, MN at the Annual Meeting of the Lutheran Free Church. They were blessed with five children: Gloria, Carol, Marilyn, and twins, Daniel and David.

Borghild worked for Holden Printing as office manager from 1944-1946 before leaving Minnesota to begin a church plant in Salem, Oregon. She and Bob were called to serve parishes in Salem, OR, Tacoma, WA, Peshtigo, WI, and in Battle Lake, Duluth and Fosston, MN. As a pastors wife, Borghild provided love, support and encouragement to the parishioners at the churches where her husband served. She assisted him as secretary, pianist, Sunday School teacher and nursery worker.

In 1968, she moved with her husband to Fargo, ND, where Pastor Bob served as President of Oak Grove Lutheran School for 5 years. After a brief stint in Ottawa, IL, they moved back to Minnesota, serving a church in New Auburn.. Their next call brought them to Willmar, MN where Pastor Bob served as Chaplain at Bethesda Nursing Homes from 1977-1984, when he retired. They spent the winter of 1984-85 in Carmel, CA, where he served as interim pastor at St. Phillips Lutheran Church.

Borghild was very active in Calvary Church attending womens circle, working at the Advent Festival, quilting on Thursdays, attending Bible Studies and prayer meetings. She also collected Campbell soup labels for education and sent them to Oak Grove Lutheran School. Borghild loved her church and the pastors who so faithfully preached the Word every Sunday She loved listening to the beautiful organ music in the sanctuary.

Borghild loved to travel as well, and did so extensively with her sister, Dagmar. Some of their destinations included: Norway, South America, Hawaii, Egypt, Alaska, Panama, Hong Kong, Australia, the Mediterranean, the Baltics, Greece, Turkey and Germany.

She is survived by her brother, Oliver Dahl (and special friend Eileen) of Minneapolis, MN; her children: Gloria (Brian) Lapwood of San Juan Capistrano, CA; Carol (Paul) Parker of Willmar, MN; Marilyn (Brian) Orsten of Willmar, MN; Dan Krueger of Raymond, MN: Dr. David (Jean) Krueger of Derwood, MD; eight grandchildren: Kari and Dr. Kristina Balck (John Gargano), Lisa and Laura Ernster, Christopher, Kaitlyn, and Erik Krueger, April Orsten; and four great-grandchildren: Stanton, Townes, Eva and Peyton.

Borghild was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1986, her grandson Steven Balck in 1998, and her sister, Dagmar Quanbeck in 2009.
