MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis police say a 4-year-old boy playing with a gun apparently shot and killed his 2-year-old brother.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in Minneapolis’ Riverside neighborhood about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday. When police arrived they found the 2-year-old with a critical gunshot wound. He was loaded into an ambulance but died at the scene.

Homicide investigators tell WCCO-AM the two boys were playing in an upstairs bedroom when they found a gun belonging to their parents. Police say the 4-year-old pulled the trigger and shot the 2-year-old in the body.

The boys’ parents were downstairs. At least one other child was in the town house.

The parents were taken to the police station for questioning. Police will turn the case over to the Hennepin County attorney’s office after investigating.
