Boys Basketball: BBE easily wins own tournament

BROOTEN -- Brian Goodwin pumped in 35 points and Trey Heinsius and Billy Borgerding put in 15 more each to help Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa toppled Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 92-61 Saturday in the championship game of the BBE Invite.

The Jaguars (2-0) led 55-39 at halftime before outscoring ACGC (1-1) by 15 in the second half.

Goodwin knocked down six of the Jaguars' 10 three-pointers while also pocketing 7 steals and dishing out 5 assists. Borgerding connected on three other treys.

Heinsius also led the team with 11 rebounds while handing out 5 assists. Alex Wosmek added 9 points and James Kuefler 6 steals.

Taylor Larson made five 3-pointers on the way to scoring a team-high 22 points for the Falcons. Dylan Hoerchler drained another four treys and followed with 19 points while also collecting 13 assists and 4 steals.

West Central Area beat Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 93-19 in the third-place game.

The Eagles of Heritage Christian Academy shot 52 percent (10-for-19) from three-point range and 75 percent (22-for-29) from the free throw line en route to nearly doubling up the Bluejays in the season opener for both squads.

Nick Daugherty scored 14 points to be the only Bluejay to score in double figures. Daugherty also hooked 7 rebounds, while Austin Bulthuis grabbed another 5.
