Boys Basketball: BBE tumbles Melrose, 64-52

COLLEGEVILLE -- Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa forced Melrose into 28 turnovers en route to a 64-52 Section 6AA-East boys basketball semifinal win Saturday at St. John's University.

The Jaguars (24-4) will play New London-Spicer for the subsection title at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's.

"We just played really well defensively," BBE coach Dave Montbriand said.

Melrose (11-15) was also kept away from the foul line as BBE committed only 13 fouls. The Dutchmen were 3 of 6 from the free-throw line while the Jaguars were 15 of 27.

Jared McCleary helped BBE surge to a 39-27 halftime lead with 14 of his game-high 16 points in the first half. He also pulled down eight rebounds. Shane Weller scored 13 points and Kevin Keufler added 11. The Jaguars had seven players score at least four points each. Jackson Illies also pulled down eight boards.

Jordan Primus led Melrose with 12 points, followed by Nathan Notch with 10.
