Boys Basketball: Benson holds off Paynesville 63-60

PAYNESVILLE -- Benson held off a 42-point second half by Paynesville to beat the Bulldogs 63-60 in a non-conference game Monday.

Sam Peterson notched a double-double for the Braves (12-6) with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Logan Connelly led Benson with 22 points while adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Matthew Ahrndt had 11 points, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Dan Weidner paced the Bulldogs (3-14) with 20 points.

Josh Bungum and Anthony Poepping added 15 points each.

Hancock made a huge comeback in the second half only to fall in overtime when Alex Alberts split two defenders for a lay-up with 3 seconds left in the extra period.

The Owls had trailed 41-27 at intermission but flip-flopped those numbers in the second half to send it to overtime tied at 68-68.

Taylor Holleman scored 22 points, Jordan Miller 18 and Collin Cunningham 17 for the Owls. Michells Algarate supplied 7 points and captured 11 rebounds.
