Boys basketball: Benson knocks off Lakers

BENSON — The Benson Braves boys basketball team didn’t shoot a lot but made the most of what they did put up, hitting 53 percent from the field to hold off Minnewaska 52-43 in a West Central Conference game Tuesday at the Benson High School.

Aaron Ahrndt hit 6-of-9 from the floor and led the Braves with 17 points, and Jacob Goff was 7-of-10 and finished with 16 points.

Zach Maurer scored 4 points and led the Braves with 8 boards.

Conversely, the Lakers hit 35 percent from the floor — including just 7-of-24 from 3-point range — and they were able to get to the free throw line only eight times.

Jayden Beecher and Austin Ostrander both scored 12 points, and Austin VerSteeg had 7 points and 8 rebounds.
