Top-seeded Litchfield and No. 3 Benson rolled Thursday in its first-round games of the Section 6AA South playoffs, while No. 3 Morris/Chokio-Alberta needed overtime and No. 5 Minnewaska edged No. 4 New London-Spicer to also move into Saturday's sub-section semifinals.

Litchfield toppled Paynesville 75-31, Benson upended St. John's Prep 78-61, Morris/CA outlasted Eden Valley-Watkins 70-69 and Minnewaska slipped past NLS 53-51.

The sub-section semifinals on Saturday afternoon at St. John's University in Collegeville will pit Litchfield and Minnewaska at 2 p.m., and Benson and Morris/Chokio-Alberta at 3:30 p.m.

Litchfield 75, Paynesville 31

Litchfield (21-5) got points from 12 different players and rolled past Paynesville in the first round.

Zach Kinny led the attack with 10 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Jon Terning and Riley Pater each had 9 points, with Terning grabbing 5 rebounds.

Zach Whitchurch tacked on 8 points and hit two 3-pointers for the Dragons, who shot 54 percent from the field.

Dan Weidner led Paynesville (3-21) with 13 points.

Jacob Torgerson hit two free throws with 2.8 seconds left in overtime to give Morris/Chokio-Alberta the win.

Logan Manska paced Morris/CA (16-10) with 20 points, 4 assists and 5 steals.

Riley Arndt had 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, and Austin Dierks had 13 points and 5 rebounds. Torgerson had 6 points.

After Torgerson's free throws, EVW threw one from half-court that clanked off the front of the rim to seal the victory for the Tigers.

Benson jumped out to a 26-12 lead to start the game and never looked back.

Logan Connelly notched 22 points for the Braves and sank three 3-pointers.

Matthew Ahrndt added 21 points and 4 assists, and Sam Peterson had 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Minnewaska 53, NLS 51

Minnewaska's Trenton Noetzelman scored the game-winning points on two free throws with 12.5 seconds left.

New London-Spicer's Joey Dreier hit two foul shots with 24 seconds to play to tie the game at 51.

After Noetzelman hit his free throws, New London-Spicer (9-17) forced a steal and Dreier was fouled with 0.01 seconds left but he missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw situation.

Noetzelman was key down the stretch, scoring six of the Lakers' final eight points.

Austin Ostrander led the Lakers (8-17) with 12 points and Blake Johnsrud added 11.

Dreier led the Wildcats with 20 points and 5 rebounds.
