Boys Basketball: Benson slips past BOLD in key WCS battle

BIRD ISLAND — Benson erased a three-point halftime deficit by putting up 37 second-half points and the Braves won 64-60 on the road featuring two of the West Central Conference’s top teams so far this season.

The Braves shot 50 percent from the field, despite 3-of-12 3-point shooting, and Benson’s defense limited the BOLD offense to 40 percent shooting from the field.

Jacob Goff led Benson (3-1, 5-2) with 18 points and 7 rebounds and Alex Forsberg played a superb all-around game with 12 points, 6 assists and 6 steals.

Zach Maurer had 12 points and 3 assists and Aaron Ahrndt scored 11 for Benson.

BOLD’s Nick Kubesh had 15 points and 10 rebound and Austin Weis finished with 10 points and 10 boards.

BOLD lost its first conference game and fell to 2-1 in the league and 4-2 overall.
