ST. CLOUD — Those who see little differences between the classes in Minnesota boys basketball had to rethink their position Saturday night.

Defending Class AAAA champion and top-ranked Apple Valley, led by Duke recruit Tyus Jones, had Class A No. 1 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa down by 22 at halftime and easily defeated the Jaguars 83-47 in the Granite City Classic at St. Cloud State’s Halenbeck Hall.

Jones hit 9-of-15 from the field and finished with a game-high 24 points. He also had 7 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Eagles (9-1) held a 41-25 rebounding edge and outscored Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 52-20 in the paint.

BBE’s Brian Goodwin scored 11 points and James Kuefler added 10. Trey Heinsius finished with 8 points and 8 boards.

It was the first loss of the season for BBE.

The 7-1 Jaguars resume their regular-season schedule at Paynesville on Thursday for a non-conference game.
