Willmar returns to its home court in 18 hours to play Moorhead, a much tougher foe. The 4A Spuds (12-5) are riding an 8-game win streak that includes a 95-93 win on Feb. 1 that ended Brainerd’s undefeated season.

The game is the second of a girl/boy doubleheader slated to start at 1 p.m.

Kyler Johnson, hitting a pair of bombs early, had 10 points shortly after the tip-off to fuel a 14-2 burst to start the game.

“You don’t want to overlook a team like this,” said coach Steve Grove. “They beat Apollo in overtime, so they were capable of beating anybody. Our kids came out and took care of business.”

The Storm (1-18) tipped the Eagles, a team that swept Willmar,  68-66 in OT on Jan. 31.

Johnson finished with 16 points, Austin Rambow 15, Joe Leuze 10 and Alex Grove 8. Willmar shot a shade under 50 percent (27 of 54).

The Storm, who play Becker today, shot 22 percent (12 of 54) with the top scorer Jared Krebs with 7 points.
