LITCHFIELD — Alex Hendricks heated up the Litchfield High School gymnasium Monday as the Litchfield junior guard canned 9 three-pointers en route to scoring a career-high 38 points and helping the Dragons topple New London-Spicer 70-62 in a Wright County Conference contest.

The win avenged a 65-56 overtime setback in New London on Dec. 20. The Wildcats (3-6, 11-7) dropped to 4-7 in 2014 after opening the season going 7-0 in 2013.

Litchfield improved to 4-6 in the conference and 7-12 overall.

Hendricks made a trio of 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the first half to help stake Litchfield a slim 30-29 lead at halftime. Hendricks then went off in the final 18 minutes of play, scoring 27 points behind 6 three-pointers. He finished 9-for-12 from three-point range, 3-for-3 from inside the arc and 5-for-5 at the free throw line.

“He was felling it,” said Litchfield coach John Carlson of Hendricks. “They were setting screens and passing him the ball. It was a good team effort and (Hendricks) shot well.”

NLS, which shot just 37 percent from the field, had a brief 40-38 lead before Litchfield took the lead for good with 12 minutes remaining in the game.

Dylan Kotzer with 11 points was the only other Dragon to score in double figures as NLS stayed closed by having a plus-13 advantage in rebounds. Cody Rau added 7 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds for the Dragons. Kotzer chiped in 5 assists and Cody Beavers supplied 4 steals.

Brett Olson paced NLS with 16 points. Shane Zylstra piled up 13 rebounds and 12 points, and Ethan Bohlsen added 11 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals.
