Boys Basketball: Jerve's 20-20 night for Monte overshadowed by loss to Benson

BENSON -- Despite a cold-shooting night, Benson knocked Montevideo out of the West Central South Conference race and gave the outright title to Morris Area with a 47-44 victory over the Thunder Hawks on Friday.

Montevideo, playing without leading scorer Eric Brandon for the second straight game with an ankle injury, bolted to a 7-0 lead and still led 23-22 at halftime.

The Thunder Hawks led by four points in the second half before Benson eventually overtook them. Leading 45-44, the Braves' Brennan Kent cashed a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to ice the game.

Aaron Lindahl had 17 points and seven rebounds for Benson (10-5, 14-9). Kent finished with 11 points.

Jeff Jerve had a strong game for the Thunder Hawks (11-4, 16-7) with 20 points and 23 rebounds.

Jamison Wall sank three 3-pointers and led the Bulldogs (10-5, 11-10) with 25 points. Nathan Nietfeld contributed a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Mitchell Marlow added 14 points.

Ross Nelson's 18 points and eight boards paced the Warriors (5-10, 9-13). Trent Neisen followed with 12 points.
