Boys Basketball: Lindahl's heave at horn lifts Benson past Waska Minnewaska

BENSON -- Aaron Lindahl's overtime heave from three-quarters court found nothing but net at the buzzer and Benson topped Minnewaska 69-66 in overtime in a Section 6AA-South quarterfinal game on Thursday.

Benson led 62-60 before Minnewaska's Pierce Peters hit a 12-footer with 25 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Benson then led 66-64 with 15 second left before John Whittemore cashed two free throws with 2.9 seconds left.

The Braves chose not to call a timeout and Brennan Kent inbounded to Lindahl, who was guarded closely and fired up a line-drive shot from two feet inside the Minnewaska three-foot arc, snapping the cords for the game-winner.

Lindahl finished with a game-high 38 points.

Brennan Kent added 13 points for the Braves (16-9). Lindahl also hooked 10 rebounds.

Shane Bosek led Minnewaska (11-14) with 20 points and six rebounds. Mike Whittemore and Brady Johnsrud had 11 points each.

Morris 51, LPGE 46

(Overtime) -- With its offense not running as smooth as normal, top-seeded Morris sweated out an overtime win in the first round of the Section 6AA-South playoffs.

The Tigers (21-4) will meet West Central South Conference rival Benson (16-9) in the semifinals Saturday at 6 p.m. at the University of Minnesota-Morris. The Tigers beat Benson twice in the regular season.

Morris scored the first seven points in the extra session -- four from Lincoln Arnold and a three-point play from Cory Hennen -- to take control. Hennen finished with a team-high 12 points and Arnold added 11.

LPGE (8-16) was plagued by turnovers in overtime and was only 2-for-5 from the free-throw line for the game while Morris was 13-for-27.

Ortonville 56, Dawson-Boyd 52

(At Marshall) -- Dawson-Boyd (15-12) had a few chances down the stretch to go ahead or force overtime, but the Blackjacks couldn't convert after top-seeded Ortonville (21-4) missed key free throws in the game's final two minutes.

Colin Bergeson drained four 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 19 points for Dawson-Boyd. Kruiz Lindblad followed with 18 points and also collected six rebounds, six assists and four assists, all team-high totals.

The Blackjacks shots 41 percent from the field, but made only 5-of-20 three-pointers.

Ortonville shot 61 percent from the floor.
