Boys Basketball: Litchfield knocks off Hutch

LITCHFIELD -- Litchfield defeated Hutchinson 81-69 on Friday but finished tied for second in the Wright County Conference race after first-place Waconia downed Annandale in the teams' final regular-season game.

The Dragons finished 13-3 in the conference and take a 20-5 record into their opening postseason game against Paynesville on Thursday at Litchfield.

Waconia, a 71-56 winner over Annandale on Friday, finished the conference season 14-2. Litchfield and Delano tied for second at 13-3.

Zach Whitchurch scored 23 points for the Dragons and Zach Kinny had 9 points and 10 assists.

The Tigers fell way behind in the first half, and while they were able to close the gap to single digits in the second, the margin was too big to overcome in a non-conference game Friday in Melrose.

Austin Dierks and Jake Torgerson led the Tigers with 18 and 17 points, respectively, and Lincoln Berget had 5 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Minnewaska came up just short of winning its final regular-season game, falling to Breckenridge 62-61 in a non-conference game Friday.

The Lakers (7-17) will face New London-Spicer 7 p.m. Thursday in the Section 6AA tournament.

Minnewaska trailed 32-30 at the half and outscored Breckenridge 31-30 in the second, to miss the win by one point.

Blake Johnsrud paced Minnewaska with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals.

Austin Giese added 15 points and Austin Ostrander had 12 points and 4 assists.

New London-Spicer will roll into the Section 6AA South playoffs next week having lost 5 of its last 6 games after shooting only 33 percent against the Royals of Watertown-Mayer in the regular-season finale. Nate Kratch scored a game-high 28 points for the Royals, who won their 10th straight to improve to 24-2.

Joey Dreier and Tyson Gislason each scored 10 points for NLS (9-16). Dreier added 5 assists and 3 steals, while Gislason led the team with 6 rebounds.
