Boys Basketball: Litchfield moves on to Crusader Classic semis
ST. CLOUD — Riley Pater scored 17 and Zach Whitchurch had 15 as Litchfield defeated Concordia Academy 60-46 in the first game of the Crusader Christmas Classic on Friday at St. Cloud Cathedral High School.
The Dragons, ranked No. 5 in Class AA, improved to 4-1 overall, and they play in the tournament semifinals at 7 p.m. today in St. Cloud.
The Beacons fell to 3-4 overall and play in the tournament consolation bracket at 3:30 p.m. today.
Litchfield opened a 23-17 halftime lead and built on its advantage in the second half, scoring 37 points after halftime.
Whitchurch and Kinny both had 6 rebounds and Kinny added a couple of assists.
Jared Schneidermann scored 17 points for the Concordia Academy, located in Roseville.

Dylan Erickson scored 23 points and Dazhown Coleman had 10 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists to lead Lac qui Parle Valley over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Thursday and into today’s championship game of the Eagles’ own tournament.
LQPV, now 3-5, plays Ortonville, a winner over Minneota on Thursday, for the tournament title at 7 p.m. today.
Minneota and CGB play for third place.
Against CGB, the Eagles opened a 10-point halftime lead and ratcheted up the defense in the second half, allowing just 18 points.
LQPV shot almost 50 percent from the 3-point line, pulled down 40 rebounds and also were clutch at the free throw line, hitting 9 of 12.
Eric Smith, recently back after missing time with an injury, scored 11 points and had 7 rebounds for the Eagles. Teammate Garrett Olson added 7 points and 8 boards.
John Connelly led CGB with 16 points and Cade Karsky had 13 points and 6 rebounds.

MORGAN — Nathaniel Huot hit eight 3-pointers and scored 29 points to lead the Blackjacks to a semifinals win Thursday at the Cougar Holiday Shootout.
Huot also pulled down 8 rebounds.

Montevideo’s Ryan Maroney took a charge with Tracy-Milroy-Balaton trying for the go-ahead basket in the closing moments at Southwest Minnesota State.
The Thunder Hawks led at halftime 27-23 but it was back and forth the entire game.
Jesse Brace led a balanced offense with 13 points and Jordan Thompson put in 9 points on a trio of treys.
Beside getting the key turnover, Maroney contributed 7 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Parker Lanoue led the Panthers with 15 points.
