Boys basketball: Melrose too much for BOLD

BIRD ISLAND — Melrose was nearly perfect shooting from inside the 3-point arc and the Dutchmen eventually pulled away from the BOLD Warriors and won 78-48 on Friday night in a non-conference boys basketball game.

Melrose hit 22 of 24 of its 2-point shots and shot 80 percent overall.

The Dutchmen, ranked No. 2 in Class AA, improved to 14-1.

BOLD kept up with the Dutchmen the first 14 minutes pulling to within 24-22.

But Melrose shook off the Warriors and went on a 15-3 burst to end the half and put a 39-25 lead on the board.

The Dutchmen’s Scottie Stone scored 33 points and Isaac Sawyer had 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals.

BOLD’s Tyler Rock had team-highs with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Warriors play next at MACCRAY at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
