MONTEVIDEO -- Sophomore guard Tyler Grey pumped in 24 points, while seniors Jon Altena and Zach Bothun had 16 points apiece to power Montevideo to an 85-66 non-conference triumph over Redwood Valley Friday night.

The Thunder Hawks, who outrebounded Redwood Valley 50-32, shot 49 percent from the field and cashed 21 of 25 free throws.

Craig Kodet had 19 points and Eric Ellingworth 14 for the Cardinals.

Chad Mulder poured in 28 points, 15 coming in the second half, to spark the Jaguars in their opener.

Mitch Schwindt added 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for Renville County West. Brent Jansen had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

For LQPV, Adam Paulson had 21 points, including four of his five 3-pointers in the second half. Paulson hit one of his trey at the final buzzer to make the score close. Brady Vandervelde had 16 points and nine rebounds.

Andrew Bernstetter scored 21 of his game-high 34 points in the first half to lift Holdingford.

The Lakers (0-1) tied the game at 53, but Bernstetter put Holdingford ahead with a 10-foot bank shot with about one minute left. Minnewaska went for the win with one second left, but its three-point attempt rimmed out.

Jordan Holte had 17 points, 13 rebounds and six steals to pace the Lakers. Ryan Kollman followed with 16 points and six steals.
