Boys Basketball: Monte, LQPV advance in 3AA

MONTEVIDEO -- Top-seeded Montevideo routed Minnesota Valley Lutheran 77-45 and Lac qui Parle Valley held off BOLD 50-45 in overtime to advance in the Section 3AA-North boys basketball tournament on Saturday.

Montevideo will play LQPV in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday in Granite Falls. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and Redwood Valley play at 7:30 p.m. in the other semifinal.

Montevideo 77, MV Lutheran 45

The Thunder Hawks (20-4) shot 54 percent and outrebounded Minnesota Valley Lutheran 38-26.

Colton Vien poured in a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Montevideo. Jake Douglas had 13 points and seven rebounds. Brett Bergeson and Ryan Boike added 10 points apiece.

Dustin Compart had 13 points and Seth Wendland chipped in with 11 for MVL.

LQPV 50, BOLD 45

No. 5-seed Lac qui Parle Valley was 8-for-10 at the free-throw line in overtime to pull off a mild upset of No. 4 BOLD. Eric Paulson was 6-for-6 at the line in the extra session to finish with a game-high 16 points for the Eagles (10-14).

Jacob Redepenning added 10 points and eight rebounds for LQPV, which beat BOLD for the second time this season.

BOLD (11-15) made a shot with under 20 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 36-36 and force overtime. Brandon Ochs netted 12 points and Phillip Marks collected 13 rebounds and 11 points to spark the Warriors.

Redwood Valley 69, YME 60

Redwood Valley cashwed 18-of-23 free throws, while Yellow Medicine East got to the line five times, making three.

The Sting (6-17) bolted to an 8-2 lead before Redwood Valley took charge.

The Sting were down by only three points late in the game but were forced to foul and the Cardinals (18-7) were proficient from the charity stripe.

J.T. Radel scored a game-high 25 points for Redwood Valley. Mike Busack had 16 points and nine rebounds.

For YME, Taylor Olson pumped in 24 points, Dylan Lindstrom had 15 and Elliot Carmany 10. Lindstrom had four 3-pointers and pulled down eight rebounds.
