BENSON -- Montevideo got an early jump on Benson, then survived a late first-half run to beat the Braves 76-62 in West Central South Conference boys basketball action Friday.

The Thunder Hawks (12-3, 13-9) charged out to a 15-4 lead, but the Braves chipped it down to four points before Montevideo exploded again to a 38-24 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Brett Bergeson sank three 3-pointers and netted 16 of his game-high 27 points for the Thunder Hawks.

Ryan Boike contributed 16 points for Montevideo, with Colton Vien and Jake Douglas adding 10 each.

Benson's Cody Jaeger scored 19 points, Sam Peterson had 15 and Brennan Kent 11. Jake Hanson pulled down eight rebounds and Peterson had seven.
