Boys Basketball: Montevideo clips ACGC to keep title hopes alive

MONTEVIDEO -- Jeff Jerve's big double-double of 26 points and 20 rebounds paced Montevideo during a 76-65 win over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in West Central South boys basketball on Thursday.

The Thunder Hawks (10-3, 15-6) dominated the Falcons (7-6, 12-9) on the boards, 37-23. Montevideo put the game away at the foul line in the final minutes, scoring nine points from the stripe.

Brett Bergeson added 16 points for Montevideo, and Ryan Boike had 13 points.

Joel Slinden's 18 points paced ACGC, followed by Jordan Tanner with 13 and Jeff Peterson with 11.

Lincoln Arnold scored 25 points and had 13 rebounds -- 10 off the offensive glass -- to keep the Tigers (12-2, 16-3) secure in the top spot of the conference.

Jackson Henrich added 12 points and Cory Hennen 10, including the team's only three-pointer.

Tyler Hebrink scored 16 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Warriors (5-8, 8-11). Ross Nelson contributed 12 points.

Aaron Lindahl became Benson's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Daniel Fragodt's old record of 1,466 career points with 2:55 left in the game. Lindahl finished with a game-high 29 points and now has 1,470 career points.

Benson (8-5, 11-9) made seven of its eight 3-pointers in the first half -- four alone from Brennan Kent, who finished with 12 points. Jeff Berens added 10 points.

Paynesville kept its slim hopes of earning a share of the conference title by having four players score in double figures. Nathan Nietfeld led the charge with 24 points while Jamison Wall added 17, Mitchell Marlow 14 and Tanner Wendroth 12.

Lac qui Parle Valley (4-10, 6-14) also had four score in double figures with Baxter DuFrane pacing the balanced attack with 16 points. Eric Paulson followed with 15, Chase Kemig 11 and Tronn Tosel 10.
