MORRIS -- Montevideo jumped out to a big lead and cruised, clinching the West Central South Conference championship with a 66-44 win over Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Friday.

The Thunder Hawks improved to 10-1 in the conference and 18-5 overall. The second-place Tigers are 8-3 in the league and 14-9 overall.

Montevideo started fast while Morris/CA struggled offensively, and the Thunder Hawks carried a 29-point lead into the second half.

Monte's Colton Vien posted a double-double, with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Teammates Jake Douglas had 14 points and Brett Bergeson went for 12.

Logan Manska scored 11 points and Riley Arndt added 8 for the Tigers, who play at BOLD on Tuesday and at Melrose on March 2 to close out the regular season.

Montevideo travels to Benson to take on the Braves on Monday.

Melrose junior Scottie Stone hit his 1,000th career point and the Dutchmen topped Paynesville 73-49 in a West Central North Conference game Friday.

Stone got No. 1,000 with a 3-pointer in the first half and finished with 31 points for Melrose (9-1, 17-6).

Paynesville finished the regular season with a 0-10 conference record and 3-20 overall.

Josh Bungum led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

Mitchell Weidner and Kyle Wolters both had 9 and Dan Weidner added 8.
