Boys Basketball: NLS repels Sauk Centre to stay atop North perch

NEW LONDON -- Aaron Jenny scored 12 of his season-high 16 points in the second half and New London-Spicer held off Sauk Centre 71-67 Monday to remain one game ahead of Albany in the West Central North Conference race.

Jenny cashed all six of his free-throw attempts in the second half to help the Wildcats (12-2, 16-7) pull away from a 34-34 halftime deadlock. Erik Tengwall made all four of his free throws in the second half and finished with 10 points. Aaron Johnson had 15 points and Jay Moten nine.

Matt Skorheim scored 21 of his game-high 27 points in the first half for the Mainstreeters (5-9, 9-12). Zane Fortune scored all 18 of his points in the second half.

Pierce Peters' double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds paced the Lakers (5-8, 8-12). Shane Bosek contributed 14 points and seven rebounds.

The win avenged a 58-53 loss to Paynesville on Jan. 16 in Paynesville.

Only four players scored for the Bulldogs (9-5, 10-10). Nathan Nietfeld led the way with 21, Mitchell Marlow had 19 and Jamison Wall 18. Jason Kampsen finished off the scorebook with two points.
