BROOTEN -- Ashby made a run at the Jaguars Monday night but then Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa decided to outfly the Arrows 78-49 in a Brooten gym filled to capacity.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and the visitors exchanged baskets until the 6-minute mark of the first half.

Ashby had several one-point leads along the way and trailed 24-23 at the 5:50 mark.

At that point, the home team down shifted and left the Arrows in the dust.

A 21-0 BBE run didn't end until 4 seconds were left on the first-half clock when the Arrows' 6-foot-11 center Riley Mickelson was able to score.

The No. 1 Jaguars go to 24-0 with Pierz up today, road conditions permitting.

Ashby, which is a sub-section foe for BBE, lost only the third time in 22 games.

The Jaguars fired off 44 first-half shots, making 20.

By the final horn, stats showed a 46-22 BBE advantage in collecting caroms.

BBE's tall backcourt tandem of 6-4 Kirby Montbriand, the off guard, and 6-3 point guard Brian Goodwin each scored 19 points and 6-7 center Connor Goodwin supplied 16 points and 12 rebounds.

James Kuefler and Billy Borgerding, who go 6-4 and 6-6 respectively, combined for 17 points and 22 rebounds. Off the bench, Trey Heinsius kicked in 4 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Micklelson powered inside for 22 points and nabbed 11 rebounds.

Section 6A seeds Wednesday.

If the Pierz game is postponed, it will be played Saturday evening in Pierz, according to BBE coach Dave Montbriand.

The Jaguars are scheduled to end the season Friday hosting Holdingford, also a Central Minnesota Conference game.
