KERKHOVEN -- There's the long arm of the law; ask the KMS Fighting Saints about the long arms of the Jaguars.

That would by 6-foot-4 Ryan Fransen whose reach caused havoc for the KMS shooters. The lanky RCW senior blocked 10 shots, altered many more and went on to finish with a triple double by adding 23 points and 20 rebounds.

The effort propelled Renville County West to a 57-52 victory over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in the 3A-North playoff opener Thursday night.

"We just couldn't get our offense to run tonight," said Saints head coach Lucas Post, sounding a little exasperated. "We kept going inside like they wanted to challenge the big guy."

It was the second win this winter for the Jaguars (2-20), who play MACCRAY in Montevideo at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. KMS exits 7-18.

Neither shot well but RCW cranked out 16 made free throws to 6 for KMS. The Jaguars also won the battle of the boards 48-31.

The Jaguars had good balance behind Fransen's 20; Issac Engstrom added 11 and Mitch Treml and Tucker Harazin with 9 each.

The game was tied 21-all at half in the Kerkhoven gym. The visitors jumped ahead out of the locker room gate and held onto the lead except momentarily when a Jake Zvorak triple tied the score at 44-44. Fransen got the rebound when a teammate missed a free shot and made both free throws to take the lead for good.

Zvorak, 6-3 sophomore, finished with 20 points to lead the Saints. Jonah Johnson finished his high school hoops career with a 15-point game, getting 13 of those in the second half, including back-to-back 3-pointers. He also had 7 helpers.

Blake Hagen added 8 points and 8 rebounds.
