Ashby was just 7-for-55 (13 percent) from the field and had one player — Blake Ohren — make all of its two-point shots. Ohren made four baskets in the first half and another in the second as the Arrows (8-1) were able to produce only 17 more points, including 11 from the free throw line.

Brian Goodwin had 19 points and Billy Borgerding 15 for the Class A second-ranked Jaguars (11-0). Ten players scored for BBE, which shot just under 50 percent from the field and outrebounded Ashby 52-21. James Kuefler hooked 14 rebounds and Trey Heinsius another 11.

BBE next tips off at Rockford tonight in a Central Minnesota Conference game. The Class AA Rockets may be only 5-6 but have won four straight, including a 55-48 overtime win over Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Dec. 28.

MACCRAY 61,

Benson 60

A pair of three-pointers from Caleb Melin keyed a double-digit comeback for MACCRAY as the Wolverines outlasted the host Benson Braves to win the championship.

The game was postponed from snowstorm on Dec. 15. Paynesville and Belle Plaine decided not to make up the third-place game.

Benson owned a 10-point lead with 3:18 left, but it was taken away when Melin made a trey with 36 seconds left that tied the game at 60-60. Benson misfired on a go-ahead attempt and MACCRAY (8-2) corralled the rebound and called a timeout, which it didn’t have resulting in a technical foul.

The Braves (2-8) couldn’t make the free throws — they were 11-for-26 on the night at the charity stripe — and Taylor Thissen was fouled on a layup with just :03 left. The senior made 1 of 2 foul shots to break the 60-60 tie.

Bailey Boike scored 26 points and was named the tournament’s MVP. Thissen added 12 points and Carter Asche 11.

The Braves were paced by a combined 34 points from Matthew Ahrndt (19) and Aaron Ahrndt (15).
