Boys basketball roundup: BBE edges HLWW

HOWARD LAKE — Trey Heinsius posted a game-high 23 points and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa topped a tough Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted team 58-52 in a Central Minnesota Conference game Thursday in Howard Lake.

The Jaguars (4-0, 14-0) pushed their winning streak to 47 straight games.

Heinsius grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double, and Brian Goodwin added 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Billy Borgerding tacked on 13 points and James Kuefler had 7 points and 7 rebounds.

BBE next plays Tuesday at Pierz.

BOLD was able to open up an nine-point lead at halftime, then held off a hot-shooting Minnewaska team in the second half of a non-conference game Thursday in Bird Island.

Trent Athmann led the Warriors with 18 points and Tyler Rock hit four 3-point shots and finished with 12 points. Nick Kubesh had 8 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.

Minnewaska hit 57 percent from the floor but managed just 37 shots and got to the free throw line only seven times. Austin Ostrander led the Lakers with 16 points and 8 rebounds, and Austin Lieser scored 11 points.

The Warriors play next at KMS at 7 p.m. today in Murdock.

Matthew Ahrndt hit a 3-pointer in overtime to help Benson clip Lac qui Parle Valley 48-45.

Benson went up two with 11 seconds left, but the Eagles’ Dazhown Coleman made a layup with 3 seconds left to force OT.

LQPV led briefly in OT on a Dylan Erickson free throw, but Ahrndt’s trey sealed the win. Erickson nearly tied it again in OT, but his 3-point attempt hit the front of the rim as time expired.

Ahrndt finished with 9 points and 3 assists.
