Boys basketball roundup: BBE powers past Arrows

BROOTEN — Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, the top-ranked team in Class A, won its 11th straight after overwhelming Ashby 86-34 in a non-conference game Friday.

Brian Goodwin was two assists shy of putting up a triple-double as the senior guard led the Jaguars (18-1) with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals. BBE put up 79 shots and made just 33 (42 percent) — including 8-for-23 on three-pointers — but it had a 61-28 advantage in rebounds.

Trey Heinsius followed only Goodwin with 8 rebounds while Billy Borgerding, Nick Benton and Alex Schumann pulled down another 7 boards each.

Borgerding also netted 17 points, Tanner Heinsius 12 and Benton 10. Borgerding added 4 blocks and Trey Heinsius 5 assists and 4 steals.

The Jaguars resume play on Thursday when they host Central Minnesota Conference rival Eden Valley-Watkins.

Four players scored in double figures for Renville County West as the Jaguars put up a season-high 73 points despite shooting 41 percent from the field. Colin Thompson paced the group with 19 points with Brady Holwerda following with 17, Ian Engstrom 12 and Nick Fischer 10.

Engstrom also hooked 10 rebounds while Thompson added 7 steals and 3 assists.

Preston Mahlum had 11 points and 8 rebounds, and Taylor Feldman supplied team-highs of 4 steals and 3 assists for the Fighting Saints.

Tyler Moffenbier hit six 3-point shots and scored 27 points to lead the Wolverines over the Eagles in a Camden Conference game Friday.

Bailey Boike added 20 points for MACCRAY, which is now 7-4 in the league.

Lucas Strand led the Eagles with 20 points and Brandon Hill had 11.

Taylor Holleman surpassed 1,000 career points but the Owls couldn’t make up a difference at the free throw line against Ortonville on Friday.

Holleman came into the game needing two points for 1,000. He hit a foul shot to pull within one and then hit one of his two 3-pointers to pass the milestone.

He finished with 23 points and is the sixth Owl with 1,000 or more points, joining Cory Schoeck, Justin Thielke, Wes Stettner, Derek Foss and Brendon Foss.

Ortonville was whistled for just eight fouls compared to Hancock’s 16 and the Trojans scored 11 more points from the foul line.

Hancock plays at Renville County West at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
