Boys basketball roundup: BBE wins 50th straight

EDEN VALLEY — It’s 50 in a row for the BBE boys basketball team.

The Jaguars’ defense held Eden Valley-Watkins in check all night and BBE won its 50th straight game in a Central Minnesota Conference matchup 63-35 on Tuesday in Eden Valley.

Trey Heinsius played a strong all-around game, with 12 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals.

Brian Goodwin and James Kuefler also notched double-doubles, with Goodwin finishing with 12 points and 10 assists and Kuefler scoring a game-high 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Jaguars face a tough test on Thursday, traveling to play 15-1 Melrose, which has won 11 in a row since an overtime loss at Litchfield on Dec. 21, 2012.

Dawson-Boyd took command from the opening tip against a strong Minneota team, building a 22-point halftime lead and eventually trampling the Vikings 75-44 on the road Tuesday night.

The Blackjacks improved to 8-2 in the Camden Conference and 13-3 overall while the Vikings fell to 6-4 in the league and 12-5 overall.

The Blackjacks’ big three — Nathaniel Huot, Joey Lee and Michael Lee — combined to score 70 points.

Joey Lee had 29 points on 10 of 13 shooting and he also had 4 assists. Huot hit six 3-point shots and finished with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Michael Lee hit 9 of 14 from the field and recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

The Blackjacks shot 66 percent in the first half, including 61 percent from the 3-point line, to take a 45-23 lead into halftime.
