Boys basketball roundup: Canby finishes off Blackjacks

MARSHALL — In a minor upset, No. 2-seed Canby ended the season of No. 1-seed Dawson-Boyd 62-58 in the Section 3A-North finals on Friday at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall.

The Blackjacks, ranked No. 8 in Class A coming into the game, were ranked in the top three spots for much of the season. They finish with a 23-3 record.

Canby goes on to play the Section 3A-South winners and defending Class A champion Southwest Minnesota Christian for a trip to the state tournament.

LE SUEUR — The ACGC boys basketball made an emphatic advance into the finals of the Section 2A-North playoffs with a 91-56 victory over Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Friday.

The top-seeded Falcons, now 19-7, play Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity, who beat Minnesota Valley Lutheran 86-71, for the sub-section championship at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

Taylor Larson hit six 3-pointers, scored 25 points, dished out 6 assists and made 5 steals, and David Kinzler was next with 21 points.

Colton Minnick scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, and Brody Larson finished with an efficient 14 points, hitting 5-of-6 from the field. He also collected 6 boards and had 5 assists.

The Falcons shot 52 percent from the floor and topped 90 points for the seventh time this season.
