DAWSON — In its first game of 2012, Dawson-Boyd hinted that there will be little letdown from last year’s 26-win season.

The Blackjacks hit 13 of 30 3-point shots and Nathaniel Huot and Joey Lee both scored 23 points in a 78-42 win over Central Minnesota Christian School on Friday in Dawson.

The Blackjacks rescheduled the start to their season for a second straight year because of its football team’s deep playoff runs.

Very little rust had accumulated.

The Blackjacks led by 18 points at the half and maintained their pace in the second while holding the Bluejays to 19 points.

D-B’s Michael Lee had 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Joey Lee had 5 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 steals, and Huot also had 6 assists and 5 boards.

CMCS’ Austin Bulthuis finished with a team-high 13 points and Nick Daugherty had 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Taylor Thissen led the Wolverines (1-0, 2-0) with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

MAPLE RIVER — Litchfield defeated Hayfield 54-45 in the first round of the Maple River tournament and will play the host school for the championship at 7 p.m. today.

In their season-opener, the Dragons, who are the top-ranked team in Class AA, built a 10 point edge in the first half and held off Hayfield down the stretch.

Litchfield’s Zach Kinny scored 14 points and also had 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Dylan Koll scored 12 points, Riley Pater had 10 and Zach Whitchurch added 9.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa overwhelmed Brandon/Evansville with a 70-26 victory in a non-conference game.

Brian Goodwin notched 21 points and 4 steals for the Jaguars (4-0), and James Kuefler had 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Trey Heinsius added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

The win extended BBE’s undefeated streak to 37 games.

The Jaguars next play  Tuesday at New London-Spicer.

GLENWOOD — Austin Dierks had a superb game for Morris/Chokio-Alberta, scoring 22 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in the Tigers’ 60-48 win over Minnewaska in a West Central North Conference game on Friday.

The Lakers lost for the first time in three games this season and were unable to overcome 22 percent field goal shooting. Minnewaska kept the game close by hitting 22 of 27 foul shots.

Morris/CA’s Jacob Torgerson had 7 points, 8 assists and 3 steals, and Logan Manska scored 9 points.

Minnewaska’s Austin Lieser played well, with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 steals. Austin Giese added 12 points.

The Lakers are on the road at Sauk Centre for a 7:30 p.m. WCN game on Tuesday.

Like a racehorse eager to start the race, Montevideo busted from the starting gate Friday night, overwhelming Lac qui Parle Valley 64-25.

It was the opener for the Thunder Hawks while the Eagles were playing for the third time in four days. The T-Hawks scheduled opener last week at Dawson-Boyd was postponed to Feb. 8.
